Landscape Management Planning – native browsing animals
This project was conducted by RDS for NRM North and was funded by the Tasmanian Community Forest Agreement – Alternatives to 1080 Program. The project involved:
  • the development of a process for planning the integrated management of native browsing animals at a sub-catchment scale,
  • a trial of the planning process in Pyengana and
  •  the preparation of a plan.

Pyengana Valley, in north-east Tasmania was selected by NRM North as the location for the trial of the planning module for several reasons, primarily because the geography and land use in the Valley mean that the farms in the area are subject to considerable pressure from wildlife populations. In addition, a number of landholders within the area had participated in NRM North’s Property Management Planning (PMP) program.

The Final Report provides a frank account of the process that was developed, the trial that took place and the preparation of the plan.
